Foxx news: Transportation Secretary reviews state's future needs

U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx is getting a close-up look at Minnesota's transportation needs for the future.

With U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar at his side, WCCO-TV reports the newly confirmed transportation chief took a look at light rail and state highway projects.

KARE 11 reported that while Foxx expressed support for Minnesota projects, he stopped short of okaying cost overruns for the Southwest corridor light rail line. Some projections indicate the project may soar past its $1.25 billion cost. The Federal government is already committed to paying for half of the project, but the stations reported that overruns or additions may be another matter.

Foxx said the rapid rebuilding of the 35W bridge, accomplished in just 13 months, was an example of how important projects can be expedited.
