Who doesn't love free food?

Chipotle, in an effort to win back consumers after the multi-state E. coli outbreak, has launched Chiptopia, a loyalty program.

It's a three-month summer rewards program that kicks off July 1, a news release says.

“We created Chiptopia to reward our most loyal customers who continue to support our efforts to cultivate a better world,” Mark Crumpacker, chief creative and development officer at Chipotle, said in the release. “While Chiptopia Summer Rewards lasts just three months, we will be carefully listening to our customers and using what we learn as we consider the design of an ongoing rewards program.”

How it works

Go to any Chipotle starting July 1 to get a Chiptopia Card (see image at right). There are three levels to earn free food: mild, medium and hot, Chipotle's website says.

Each time you use your Chiptopia Card to buy a burrito or other entree, you get a credit. After four credits in one month, you get a free entree. That's mild status.

Medium status comes when you get four more credits (or eight burritos/entrees in a month). That earns you another free entree.

When you get to the hot status – eleven visits within a month – gets you a third free entree.

If you get one of the statuses for all three months, you can earn even more. Mild status for three months gets you another free entree. Medium status gets you $20 in merchandise, and hot status earns you free catering for 20 people.

Note: The credits reset after every month, and only one purchase a day qualifies for a credit.
