Friend: Dinkytown driver was in rush to sell hit-and-run car

A friend said he had made several offers to buy Timothy Bakdash's 2004 Galant, but it wasn't until soon after a deadly hit-and-run in Dinkytown that Bakdash suddenly seemed eager to unload the vehicle. The Pioneer Press reports Bakdash later told his friend he had to come clean and that he "had hit some people with the vehicle."

Bar that served hit-and-run driver being sued

A lawsuit claims Timothy Bakdash was overserved at The Library before he drove into a group of people, killing one of them. Bakdash is serving 40 years in prison for second-degree murder. Family members of the victim filed the suit against the bar in Minneapolis' Dinkytown area.

The defense attorney says Timothy Bakdash intended merely to put a scare into a group of students he plowed into with his car after an argument at a University of Minnesota area bar. Court documents also reveal a passenger was with Bakdash at the time of the incident. One person died and two others were injured.

Timothy Bakdash was also convicted of criminal vehicular homicide in the fatal hit-and-run in Minneapolis' Dinkytown neighborhood. Bakdash had argued he did not intend to kill the man he had argued with in a nearby bar, only scare him.

Bakdash allegedly drove on a sidewalk to run over a man with whom he had quarreled at a nearby bar. Prosecutors say the killing was intentional, so a first-degree murder conviction is in order. The defense argues Bakdash was drunk and only meant to scare the victim, not kill him.
