Fulton made its first pilsner – but is also getting rid of 1 year-round beer

Pour one out.

Fulton is shaking up its beer lineup.

The Minneapolis brewery announced this week it's releasing its first pilsner called Pils – and it'll be available year-round.

Fulton finally decided to make a pilsner because it's one of its favorite styles. The beer is made with Minnesota-malted Rahr Pilsner and German Perle and Saaz hops.

It's described as having a floral aroma, well-rounded bitterness, and a clean finish. It has an ABV of 5.3 percent and 30 IBUs.

Pils will be available year-round on draft and in six packs of 12-ounce bottles.

Say goodbye to a taproom favorite

Adding a year-round beer to Fulton's lineup doesn't happen very often. In fact, Fulton was different than many other breweries, and only had two year-round beers – Lonely Blonde and Sweet Child of Vine – for its first five years.

Now Fulton has five core beers you can get all year (with a bunch more seasonal and small-batch beers released throughout the year).

But because there are only so many tap handles and such limited space on liquor store shelves, Fulton had to ditch one of its core beers to make room for Pils.

So, pour one out for The Ringer.

The American pale ale was a taproom favorite, and was added to Fulton's year-round lineup in 2014. You'll still be able to get The Ringer in the taproom "on a regular basis," but the last of the bottles are in liquor stores now, Fulton says.

Fulton also retired two of its saisons: The Expat and Maitrise. This doesn't mean you'll never have them again, but the brewery has no timetable for when they'll be released again.

More new beers coming

But when one keg is gone, another gets tapped (that's how the saying goes, right?).

Fulton released two new beers in MayHopstar, a hazy session IPA, and Extra! Extra!, an American pale ale done in collaboration with the Star Tribune for the newspaper's 150th anniversary.

And more new beers are coming, including two more beers from its Culture Project series: Tanager, a 100-percent barrel-fermented Brett IPA, and another that hasn't been described yet.

Fulton also plans to do some more collaborations. The brewery teamed up with Ballast Point on a kettle-sour beer in honor of the National Homebrewer's Convention coming to the Twin Cities next week (here's where you can get the beer).

Fulton plans to do more collaborations, but it can't talk about those yet. And new, taproom exclusives will be released throughout the year.

The brewery usually has 20-24 beers available in the taproom, with the lineup changing almost weekly. You can find the latest beers available on tap here.
