Gannett Co. is letting go of its local staff at Metromix sites in the Twin Cities and six other markets. The site will still exist as Express Metromix, which will compile event listings from other sources.

Organizers of the Northern Lights Express say they're disappointed Anoka County is pulling out of the rail line between Duluth and the Twin Cities. But they say it won't kill the project. Plans call for engineering work to begin this summer.

Twin Cities homebuilders pulling more permits

MPR News reports permits increased by 20 percent. The Builders Association of the Twin Cities says single-family homes took up the majority of those permits. However, multi-family construction was down 40 percent in August, compared to last year.
