We're getting closer to flying cars becoming a reality

Will flying cars become a reality in millennials' lifetime?
Author:

If you grew up watching The Jetsons, this information will leave you shook: Flying cars could happen soon.

According to Wired, aviation experts think "practical flying cars" could be a reality in just five years.

There's a bunch of companies racing to be the first one to come up with the flying car, and some of them will be showing off at the International Paris Air Show this week.

One of the developers at the forefront is Neva Aerospace, which has a version of a flying car called the AirQuadOne.

Though it's still just a concept, Neva says the AirQuadOne will be a fully electrical vehicle that weighs around 1,000 pounds, including 330 pounds for the batteries and 220 for the pilot. Much like a drone, the aircraft will use turbofans, allowing the quad to travel for about 30 minutes at 50 mph.

The AirQuadOne is just one of several "flying car" concepts out there right now, which include the Airbus' Vahana and the Flyer from Kitty Hawk, a company backed by Google's cofounder, Larry Page.

Japan and Uber are each promising flying cars by 2020, and a Dutch company is even claiming it'll deliver the world's first one by NEXT YEAR.

Of course, there are all kinds of concerns and potential problems that need to be addressed before flying cars become a reality. But with all the competition to develop the first one, personal flying vehicles are no longer just something out of a sci-fi movie.
