GiveMN gets new website host after last year's glitches

GiveMN, the nonprofit that facilitates online donations and hosts the popular Give To The Max Day, is getting a new website provider after last year's five-hour website crash during the organization's signature event.

GiveMN will roll out its Kimbia-powered online giving platform this summer, the organization said Thursday on its blog.

“I’m excited that we are teaming up with Kimbia, the right partner to help us take GiveMN to the next level,” said GiveMN Executive Director Dana Nelson said in the press release. “The new giving platform is just the start. In the coming years, we’ll be doing even more to transform the way Minnesotans express their generosity.”

GiveMN decided to ditch Washington D.C.-based Razoo after last year's website glitches.

“The crash we had on Give to the Max Day was such a significant event that our board said, ‘We have to get serious about getting the right partner,’ ” GiveMN executive director Dana Nelson, told the Star Tribune. “We can’t allow that to happen again.”

Despite the five-hour outage, 52,000 Minnesotans donated $17.1 million to nearly 4,500 nonprofits and schools on Give To The Max Day. Since its inception in 2009, GiveMN has enabled more than $95 million in donations to thousands of nonprofits and schools in Minnesota, the organization says.

GiveMN said it will work closely with its users to make the transition to Kimbia as smooth as possible. The processing fee will also stay the same.

“Kimbia is the best possible option to enable us to build the future of giving in Minnesota," Todd Hauschildt, a member of the GiveMN Board of Directors and CEO of SWAT Solutions, a Minnesota software consulting firm, said in GiveMN's announcement.

GiveMN is also working with Minneapolis-based Fast Horse, an integrated marketing agency. Fast Horse is helping with the content and design of GiveMN's new site, the organization says.

The next Give To The Max Day is Nov. 13, 2014, but the website accepts donations all year.
