Five players from the University of Minnesota's men's baseball team have been named as Big Ten all-conference selections, the Star Tribune reports.
Yes, the Gopher struggled at the Big Ten tournament at Target field, but as Roman Agustoviz writes, the U had two pitchers on the first team, a catcher on the second team and an infielder and outfielder on the third team. They did not have anyone on the all-freshman team.
Pitchers DJ Snelton and Tom Swindle made the first-team grade as starting pitchers. Catcher Kurt Schlangen made the second team, and outfielder Kurt Schlangen and second baseman Connor Schaefbauer made the third team. the Big Ten also honored Ryan Abrahamson with a sportsmanship award.
That may be of some consolation for the Gophers, who went 2-2 in the conference tourney and were eventually eliminated as 7-4 in the losers to Nebraska Friday. The Gophers finished the season with a 32-22 record.
