The Golden Gophers football team will play a solid team from the SEC ... in a decade.

Minnesota announced Wednesday that it's added a future two-game series against Mississippi State for the 2026 and 2027 seasons. This is a fairly big move considering the Gophers don't normally play really good teams during the non-conference schedule. TCU in 2015 and USC in 2012 were difficult opponents, but the majority of the non-conference opponents, like most teams, are pretty weak.

Mississippi State, down this year at 3-5, has been to six straight bowl games. In 2014 they went to the Orange Bowl and were ranked No. 1 in the AP poll for a short time.

The series will bring the Bulldogs to TCF Bank Stadium in 2026 and back to Mississippi in 2027.

Mississippi State will be Minnesota's first regular-season SEC opponent since Vanderbilt in 1959. The most recent game against an SEC member was in 2015 when the Gophers lost to Missouri in the Citrus Bowl.

The agreement with the Bulldogs comes after the Gophers announced last week an agreement to a home-and-series with BYU in 2020 as well as future games with Colorado and Georgia Southern.
