With the Gopher men's basketball team having a turnaround season, the team is starting to land highly-touted recruits. They landed the top point guard out of New York City who will be with the team this coming season and now they're trying to land another big name from the East Coast.

Jalen Gaffney, a four-star recruit out of New Jersey, confirmed on his Twitter on Thursday night that he's received a scholarship offer from the U of M.

Gaffney won't be graduating until 2019, but clearly the Gophers are already making their pitch to the soon-to-be junior in high school. According to 247 Sports, Gaffney is the 21st best point guard in the nation for his class and he's the fifth best player overall in the state of New Jersey.

The point guard has received offers from several schools, but the Gophers are one of just two teams – Seton Hall being the other – who made the NCAA Tournament last year.

He told Scout.com in March that powerhouses such as Xavier, Wake Forest and Florida have expressed interest but those schools have yet to make him an offer.

Richard Pitino and his staff have yet to have a player commit to their 2019 class. However their 2018 class features home-grown talent Daniel Oturu – one of the best prep players in Minnesota – from Cretin-Derham Hall, who committed in January.

The Gophers also made an offer to Tre Jones – class of 2018 – who is the younger brother of Timberwolves point guard Tyus Jones.
