Trevor Mbakwe told reporters on Friday that he was arrested for DWI earlier this summer. Police reports indicate he was arrested July 1st and pleaded guilty on September 10th. The issue is being handled internally, but coach Tubby Smith said he almost kicked Mbakwe off the team.

Minnesota Gophers forward Trevor Mbakwe was in Florida on Friday for a court hearing as a judge mulled whether a probation violation merited jail time. But the judge ultimately decided that he would offer the NCAA player a lighter sentence: two years probation, 20 hours of community service per month and he must attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, the Star Tribune reports. He was arrested for DWI in July in Minnetonka, and he had been on probation stemming from a Florida battery charge in 2009.

Gophers forward Trevor Mbakwe was scheduled to appear in court Monday for violating a restraining order last January. The appearance was postponed, and might not happen until April. Either way, it sounds like the case is fizzling out.

Lakeville dad who abandoned son avoids prison, sentenced to probation

The Lakeville man convicted of abandoning his 11-year-old son last summer was sentenced to probation up to two years Wednesday and must pay more than $2,500 in restitution. A Dakota County jury found 60-year-old Steven Cross guilty of neglect, a gross misdemeanor, for leaving his son and fleeing to California in July of 2011. If Cross violates his probation, KARE 11 reports he could be sent to jail for a year.

Ex-Twin Delmon Young pleaded guilty today to aggravated harassment in an incident last spring where he shouted an anti-Semitic slur and tackled a man outside a New York hotel. Young -- in part -- was ordered to 10 days of community service.
