Got an extra 80-foot tree lying around? St. Paul's Union Depot may want it

Now here's a tall order.

The Union Depot in St. Paul is seeking its next holiday tree, and they're asking it be an 80-foot high evergreen that has overgrown its location or needs to be removed – and it must come from within Ramsey County, a news release says.

The tree, the Depot says, will "brighten the winter nights" through New Year's Day as it stands over the North Plaza, using some 15,000 "energy-efficient LED lights."

If you're eager to get such a tree off your property, spruce it up and take a nice picture of it – the Depot is asking interested donors to send in photo submissions as they search for the winner.

If you do decide to donate, don't worry about getting sap on your hands – the owner of the chosen evergreen, the Depot says, will be eligible to have the tree removed and the remaining stump ground down for free.

In addition, such a noble deed could earn you a write-off, as the donation may also be eligible for a tax deduction," the release says.

The deadline for submissions is Oct. 15, and officials will choose their tree by Nov. 1.

The Union Depot Holiday Tree Lighting celebration will take place on Dec. 4.
