Grand jury declines to charge son of ex-Twin Torii Hunter
A grand jury has opted not to indict the teenage son of former Minnesota Twins outfielder Torii Hunter after a sexual assault allegation made in Texas, the Associated Press reports.
Darius McClinton-Hunter had been arrested in May along with several others in a sexual assault case in Collin County, which is north of Dallas. But the grand jury said Wednesday the case lacked adequate evidence to prosecute.
A lawyer for the 18-year-old said the promising athlete was hopeful he could play football again, the AP reported. The teen missed his high school senior season and colleges stopped recruiting him, the AP said.
A lawyer for the teen in May said he had a recorded telephone conversation during which the 16-year-old accuser in the case recanted the allegation, the Associated Press reported last year.
Hunter, now with the Detroit Tigers, played for the Twins for 10 years before spending five seasons with the Anaheim Angels.
