Grand jury indicts St. Cloud man in his mother's stabbing death

A St. Cloud man has been indicted on first-degree murder charges in the stabbing death of his mother.

The St. Cloud Times reports that a Stearns County grand jury indicted 52-year old Dean Allan Friese on first-degree murder on Wednesday.

Friese had previously been charged with second-degree murder in the Sept. 14 death of his mother, Lois Arlene Omeara.

Friese is expected to make his first court appearance on the new charges Thursday.

Police say Omeara was found dead in Friese's St. Cloud apartment. A criminal complaint has accused him of pulling a medical alarm in his apartment, knowing his mother would respond. Friese is accused of stabbing Omeara eight times, when she arrived at his apartment.

WCCO reports that Friese told investigators that he had been thinking about killing his mother prior to the attack.

Court records show Friese has a history of mental illness, including multiple civil commitments. He is currently being held in the Stearns County Jail on $3 million dollars bail.
