The 50-year-old grandfather who was pulled from a west-central Minnesota lake Tuesday night has died, while his 2-year-old grandson remains hospitalized.
Douglas County Sheriff's Office dive team members found James Minnerath and his grandson, Hayden Minnerath, submerged in Lake Andrew after the UTV they were riding on broke through the ice, the Alexandria Echo Press says.
Both were taken to a local hospital, and then airlifted to hospitals in the Twin Cities.
The family released a statement Wednesday morning saying Hayden Minnerath is in stable condition at Children's Hospital and Clinics, but that James Minnerath has died, KARE 11 reports.
The sheriff's office was alerted Tuesday night that two people were unaccounted for, and the caller, who went out looking for them, spotted a hole in the ice, WDAY notes.
Dive teams pulled the UTV out of the water Wednesday morning, the Echo Press notes.
