A Grand Rapids couple is dead after a single-vehicle crash on Highway 46 northeast of Bemidji just before midnight Saturday night, the Star Tribune reports. The Minnesota State Patrol reports the crash killed the driver, Joy L. Wilson, 54, and her husband, Donald G. Wilson, 56. Neither were wearing their seat belt.

A line of severe thunderstorms brought winds of more than 70 mph through northern Minnesota Monday night. The storms downed trees and power lines in areas including Bemidji and Grand Rapids, knocking out phone and electrical service and stranding campers at Itasca State Park.

Cargill recalls 30,000 pounds of ground beef

Minnetonka-based Cargill is voluntarily recalling ground beef due to salmonella concerns. The 85 percent lean ground beef was produced at Cargill's plant in Wyalusing, Pa., on May 25, and repackaged for sale to consumers of a Maine-based grocery chain, the Associated Press says. The chain sold the ground beef in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont.

Thousands in the Northland without power after second wave of storms
