Group pushes the search for Jodi Huisentruit as 20th anniversary approaches

A group dedicated to the search for Jodi Huisentruit is making plans to mark next month's 20th anniversary of the Mason City television anchor's disappearance.

Huisentruit, a native of Long Prairie, phoned a co-worker at KIMT TV on the morning of June 27, 1995, and said she was on her way to the station. She never showed up. Investigators believe she was abducted on her way to work.

On the anniversary of her disappearance, the group FindJodi will lead a walk that will trace the 1.4 mile route from Huisentruit's apartment to KIMT.

FindJodi is led by former journalists and investigators determined to resolve the case. They meet monthly to coordinate the effort.

Among them is Caroline Lowe, who reported on the Huisentruit case for years while working for WCCO TV. Lowe tells the station that even at her current job in California she keeps a photo of Huisentruit on her desk.

Also part of the group is Beth Bednar, author of the book "Dead Air: The Disappearance of Jodi Huisentruit" and Jay Alberio, a retired investigator with the Woodbury police department.

Huisentruit's mother died in Long Prairie last December at the age of 91.

Members of FindJodi were in Mason City Wednesday to publicize their plans for June 27.

After the Walk for Jodi, they say there will be a meeting to "...regroup, reassess and decide how we go about trying to find her before it’s the 21-year anniversary..."
