Funeral set for slain Cold Spring officer; gun sought

The visitation for slain Cold Spring police officer Tom Decker is scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, the Associated Press reports. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Saint John's Abbey and University Church in Collegeville.

The 31-year-old officer's family – his wife and four children – are deeply mourning, the St. Cloud Times reports. “He just liked to protect people,” 8-year-old Kelly tells the newspaper. “All I can say is I want him back.”

Decker's wife Becky told KARE 11, "The worst part of it all is when my daughter Jade said all she wants for Christmas is her daddy."

Investigators continue to sort out details and conduct interviews in the case, but they are missing one important piece of evidence: the weapon.

The Stearns County sheriff's office on Saturday asked the public to keep an eye out around yards and around homes for a discarded weapon that they suspect was a 20-gauge shotgun used in the slaying of Officer Tom Decker, the St. Cloud Times reports.

Decker was killed late Thursday night in what investigators called an ambush. Police had been called to check on someone who was reportedly suicidal.

Community college student Ryan M. Larson has been arrested in the case. A man who knew Larson told the Star Tribune that Larson liked guns but was careful with them. In 2009, an ex-girlfriend requested a protective order against Larson after "he got very angry and aggressive and agitated," court documents show, the Star Tribune reports.
