St. Cloud Area School District canceled classes at McKinley Area Learning Center in Waite Park Friday after a former student threatened to put students and staff in harm's way.

The St. Cloud Times reports in a conversation with friends on Thursday, the individual mentioned bringing a gun to school and hurting people, according to police.

Officers investigated and cleared the building before McKinely staff returned to the building Friday morning. Some officers remained on school grounds as a precaution.

WJON says the school houses an alternative learning program.

All other schools in the district held classes as normal.

Investigators are working to track down the individual that made the threat.
