Hatchery sorts 130,000 fish by hand after storms mix up trout

Storms took a heavy toll on many areas of the state last weekend, including the state fish hatchery in Lanesboro, where workers had to sort through 130,000 fish by hand after flash floodwater mixed five types of trout, KTTC reported.

The flash floodwaters rose above the levels of holding tanks, and more than 60,000 trout fingerlings escaped. Other fish died; some were found flailing in muddy pools of water, the Rochester Post Bulletin reported.
