Brace yourself for about one more day of uncomfortable heat and humidity. The National Weather Service has much of central and southern Minnesota under a heat advisory through Thursday evening.

Temperatures in the mid-90s and tropical humidity lingered in the Twin Cities for most of the day Wednesday. KARE 11's Belinda Jensen says there will be little relief when the sun goes down. At 11 p.m., it's expected to be a toasty 86 degrees.

Dave Dahl at KSTP says the high temperatures Wednesday night could become dangerous for the elderly. Dahl is advising his audience to check on neighbors, friends and relatives that might not have sufficient air conditioning or fans.

On Tuesday, a 78-year-old Alzheimer's patient in northern Kentucky died of heat exhaustion in a hot spell spanning from Massachusetts to Minnesota, the Associated Press reported.

In Blaine, Thousands of youth soccer teams from around the world are competing at the 2013 Schwan's USA Cup at the National Sports Center. Tournament organizers have shortened games and are giving more water breaks to combat the heat.

An outdoor concert in Burnsville Wednesday night has been moved inside. At 7 p.m., temperatures are still expected to be in the low 90s.

Minnesota dairy farmers are also keeping a close eye on their cows, which can reduce milk production anywhere from 10 to 15 percent if under heat stress.

Local forecasters are expecting a cool front to come into the state late Thursday, bringing temperatures and humidity down in time for the weekend.
