Several thousand homes and businesses across the northern part of the state lost power as a line of thunderstorms, complete with high winds and small hail, pushed through the area.

The Duluth News Tribune said that Minnesota Power reported 3,700 customers from Superior, Wis. to Moose Lake, Willow River, Barnum, Floodwood and Meadowlands had their service curtailed. Lake Country Power reported several hundred customers in the Crane Lake, Wabana and Cromwell areas also

The National Weather Service reported trees down in the Hill City, Outing and Squaw Lake areas.

It looks like the storms snapped the wave of uncomfortably hot weather that had stalled over the state, featuring high temperatures with dewpoints to match. KARE 11 reported that it will be much cooler today with highs in mid-70s in the southern part of the state and in the upper 60s to low 70s up north. Temperatures will remain in the 70s on Labor Day and inch back into the 80s by Tuesday.
