Hennepin County Board members have voted by a 5-1 margin to raise their salary 2.5 percent in 2014, the Star Tribune reported.

The move -- which comes after votes by members over the past four years to freeze their own pay -- was not well received by commissioner Jeff Johnson, who said he was "not comfortable with the message" the raise sends to taxpayers.

The salary for each board member in 2012 is $97,080.
