Hennepin County is closing all access points to lakes

Fox 9 reports the sheriff's office made the decision after at least eight vehicles broke through thin ice on lakes in the Twin Cities. The unseasonably warm weather has made ice conditions extremely unpredictable. Access points will remain closed until further notice.

Our mild weather continues to pose a danger on Minnesota lakes right now. Another pickup broke through thin ice Saturday on Lake Minnetonka. WCCO reports the two men inside the truck were able to escape from the windows and make it to shore safely. An SUV crashed through Lake Minnetonka last Sunday. Authorities continue to remind people the warm winter is creating "extremely dangerous" conditions.

Minnesotans are still being warned to stay off lakes all across the state. The Associated Press reports at least three more people fell through thin ice in the Twin Cities this weekend. The unseasonably warm weather is making ice conditions unpredictable and dangerous.

DNR urging anglers to remove fish houses from lakes early

The deadline for the southern two-thirds of Minnesota is March 5. Although, DNR officers are worried some of the ice may not last two more weeks because of the warm winter weather.
