It's cold outside.

People around Minnesota woke up to subzero temperatures and bitter-cold wind chills Tuesday morning. A wind chill advisory is in effect until noon Tuesday for all of Minnesota.

The average temperature this time of year is 24 degrees, but the mercury was reading far colder than that – the average temperature in the state was minus 8 degrees Tuesday morning, Air Sports says.

A look at temperatures around the state:

  • Grand Marais: minus 17.
  • Fosston: minus 13.
  • Owatonna: minus 11.
  • Moorhead: minus 8.
  • Twin Cities: minus 6.
  • St. Cloud: minus 2.

That's quite a drop in temperature from the weekend. At about 5 p.m. Sunday it was 24 degrees in St. Paul. In the 40 hours since, it's dropped almost 30 degrees, according to University of Minnesota Climatological Observatory.

The temperature will likely limp above zero in the Twin Cities Tuesday, but that's not likely for most of the state. Here's a look at the expected temperature for 4 p.m. Tuesday:
