Here's what you need to know about new MN United coach Adrian Heath

Adrian Heath will bring experience and success to the United FC sidelines.

Minnesota United FC made it official today announcing they've hired Adrian Heath as head coach for their inaugural season in Major League Soccer.

It wasn't exactly breaking news. Reports that Minnesota had hired Heath started leaking out nearly two weeks ago.

So here are a few things you need to know about the new United head coach.

He's done this before

Heath served as the head coach for the Orlando City FC from 2008-2015, where he guided the Lions as they moved from Austin to Florida and transitioned from the United Soccer League into MLS.

He compiled a 16-18-16 record in his one and a half MLS seasons with the Lions.

I firmly believe that Adrian is the best choice to lead this club into our first year in MLS and beyond

Heath will oversee a similar transition with United as they move from the NASL to MLS.

Success as a head coach

In his four years with Orlando City the Lions won two USL Pro championships and three Commissioner's Cups. He also led the USL team to two U.S. Open Cup victories over MLS competition.

During their inaugural MLS season, the Lions finished seventh in the Eastern Conference, falling just short of a playoff berth.

Prior to heading to the U.S., Heath spent 11 years coaching for Burnley, Sheffield United and Coventry City in England.

Heath has history with Manny Lagos

The Loons are coming off a disappointing season that saw them miss the NASL playoffs for the first time since 2013.

Lagos, the former head coach (2010-2015) who is now the club's Sporting Director, has a lot of confidence in Heath.

"I firmly believe that Adrian is the best choice to lead this club into our first year in MLS and beyond," said Lagos in a statement Tuesday. "His experience in Orlando City, helping that organization grow and build the right way and the way he immersed himself in the fan base and in the community was a critical factor in making this decision. We are thrilled to have someone with Adrian's talents and expertise at this club."

In his statement Heath acknowledged that he's known Lagos for a long time and jumped at the opportunity to coach the Loons.
