Hamilton is coming to Minnesota
The hit Broadway play will be part of the upcoming 2018-2019 Broadway on Hennepin season, the Hennepin Theatre Trust announced Friday afternoon.
There aren't a lot of details, but the show will be at the Orpheum. An email release says the best way to guarantee tickets is to buy a season subscription on Jan. 23, 2017, when the full slate is announced.
In addition, subscribers who renew for 2018-19 will be able to guarantee seats before the general public.
How to buy group and single tickets, and prices, will be released at a later time.
Lin-Manuel Miranda is known as the brains behind – and public face of – Hamilton. The show, which he wrote and starred in, won 11 Tony awards, grossed $75 million, and became ubiquitous in pop culture. He will not be part of the show in Minneapolis (or other cities) – his last performance in the role came in July.
The show is about "America’s Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant from the West Indies who became George Washington’s right-hand man during the Revolutionary War and was the new nation’s first Treasury Secretary," the Hennepin Theatre Trust website says.
The recording won a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album, and mixes hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B and Broadway styles.
