Highway 10 closed for hours after fatal crash

Highway 10 was closed in Coon Rapids for several hours Wednesday morning after a woman was killed in a crash.

The Minnesota State Patrol says the crash happened at 1:54 a.m. near the University Avenue intersection, when a Ford Crown Victoria struck a stalled vehicle parked on the shoulder.

The passenger in the Ford – a 30-year-old woman – was killed in the crash, with the 29-year-old male driver injured.

The Anoka County Sheriff's Office told KSTP alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash and the case will be referred to the Anoka County Attorney for possible charges.

Eastbound Hwy. 10 was closed for hours, causing huge problems for commuters making their way to downtown areas.

Both the left and right lanes had been reopened at 7:45 a.m., having caused long tailbacks as drivers headed to work, with the Star Tribune reporting traffic was detoured via Highways 610 and 47.
