Highway 36 through Maplewood to close Monday


About a mile-and-a-half span of Minnesota Highway 36 in Maplewood will close Monday for most of the summer, the Pioneer Press reports.

Minnesota Department of Transportation will close both directions the roadway at 12 a.m. from U.S. 61 to White Bear Avenue for 75 days to replace an intersection.

A posted detour will advise drivers to use I-35E and I-694 as alternative routes around the construction zone.

According to the project website, access to English St. from Highway 36 has already been closed. On Monday, English St. will closed between Highway 36 and Cope Ave. until late August.

Gervais Avenue between Viking Drive and Harvest Park will also be closed to through traffic.

The $17.3 million project to be completes this year is meant to improve safety and update pedestrian and bicycle facilities along the Highway 36 corridor, Patch reports.
