The A.G. Thomson House Bed & Breakfast can add another milestone to its already long and rich history – the week it was recognized as the best B&B in America and one of the best in the world.

On Wednesday, the Duluth home – built in 1909 – earned the no. 1 spot on TripAdvisor's "Travelers' Choice" rankings in the U.S. Bed & Breakfast category. It also made the top 10 on the travel website's list of best B&Bs in the world.

But it's not just TripAdvisor's opinion. According to a press release, the company built their rankings on the customer reviews and feedback given "in a single year" for hotels and inns around the world.

Of the A.G. Thomson House, the website has this to say: "Relaxing setting, luxurious rooms, gorgeous grounds, yummy breakfast and treats. Friendly service and all around great hosts.

The home, according to its website, is named for its second owner, local businessman Adam G. Thomson, who bought it in 1918 and added on to it, living there with his family for many years.

Considered an example of Dutch Colonial Revival architecture, the B&B says the house was designed by Minneapolis architect Edwin H. Hewitt, whose works include structures recognizable to Twin Cities residents – like the Minneapolis Club, the Hennepin Avenue Methodist Church, and the Charles A. Pillsbury House, among others.

According to the website, it sits in Duluth's "Historic Congdon Mansion District," which is also the site of the storied Glensheen Mansion. The "innkeepers," as they refer to themselves, have owned the home since 2007.

As you can see, they were pleasantly surprised by their lofty TripAdvisor rankings:

The top choices were New York City's Sherry-Netherland Hoteland the Umaid Bhawan Palace Jodhpurin India, respectively.
