Home Depot is looking to hire new employees as it prepares for a busy spring.

The Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal reports the company plans to hire 1,050 people in the Twin Cities alone.

According to the report, Home Depot is encouraging students, retirees, veterans and military reservists to apply. The company has even designed a website to match military skills with open positions, according to the Business Journal.

The company plans to hire 80,000 seasonal workers nationwide. Available positions will vary by location, according to the company. The USA Today reports some of the seasonal employees may be asked to stay on permanently.

"Spring is our peak hiring season, giving us the opportunity to find some of the best associates who are passionate about customer service," said Tim Crow the executive vice president of Human Services with Home Depot.

Bloomberg reports the chain's sales have grown 9.4 percent to $79.4 billion in the last 12 months through Nov. 3. The company has benefitted from surging home sales in the last two years as surging home values have encouraged home owners to spend on their properties, according to the report.

The Atlanta-based home improvement retailer operates 2,263 stores across the country, including more than 30 in Minnesota.
