Law enforcement throughout Dakota County hit the hardwood for a basketball tournament in Apple Valley on Saturday to raise money for the family of Cold Spring officer Tom Decker, KSTP reports.

Decker was fatally shot in the line of duty while responding to a call last November.

KARE 11 says more than 50 players representing close to a dozen agencies took part in the event -- which raised more than $1,500.

“We just want to show the families of officers who have given their lives that they’ll never be forgotten, and that the community supports what they did,” Sgt. Booker Hodges with the Dakota County Sheriff's Department, told WCCO.

Similar benefits have also honored Mahnomen Deputy Chris Dewey and Lake City Police officer Shawn Schneider.

Earlier this month, the Cold Spring City Council honored Tom Decker by retiring his badge number.
