Scattered severe thunderstorms moved across northern and central Minnesota Saturday night into early Sunday morning, but the storms will make way for a very summery Sunday to finish off the holiday weekend.

KARE 11 says humidity and heat will increase Sunday – temperatures are expected to reach the upper 80s to near 90 degrees. This will also serve as fuel for another round of potential storms Sunday afternoon into Monday.

Severe thunderstorm watches and flash flood warnings were in effect for parts of northern Minnesota late Saturday into Sunday, but morning showers and thunderstorms are expected to dissipate and then reform along a cold front Sunday afternoon throughout the state.

A few of the scattered thunderstorms could turn severe, especially in southeastern Minnesota and west central Wisconsin, the National Weather Service reports. Damaging winds and large hail, along with the chance of an isolated tornado, are all possible.

Another round of strong to severe storms is possible Monday night in southeastern Minnesota as another cold front pushes through, the weather service says.
