Hubbard Broadcasting shuts down news operations in Alexandria, cuts 17 jobs

Effective immediately, KSAX-TV will no longer produce and broadcast its regularly scheduled local news cut-ins. The move affects 17 employees at the Alexandria television station. KSAX Station Manager Ed Smith told the Echo Press, "The rising costs of technology, along with increased competition in viewing choices, have made it impossible for the station to remain profitable in its current form." The ABC affiliate will continue to offer central Minnesota viewers local and national programming from its Twin Cities-based sister station, KSTP-TV.

Boston broadcaster buys Mpls.-based Public Radio International

Minneapolis-based Public Radio International (PRI) has a new owner. The smaller competitor to National Public Radio announced Thursday it has been sold to WGBH Boston. Although terms of the deal were not disclosed, PRI will still produce its programming and Alisa Miller will remain CEO. PRI was founded 28 years ago and is on 900 radio stations nationwide.
