'Not a dry eye' at funeral service for Mandy Matula
Family and friends remembered Mandy Matula Sunday in an Eden Prairie funeral service that came more than six months after they'd last seen the 24-year-old woman.
Fox 9 reports there was a not a dry eye in the sanctuary of Grace Church during a ceremony that opened with Wayne Matula remembering his daughter and thanking the many people who helped serarch for her.
As KARE-11 reports, Matula's teammates from her University of Minnestoa-Duluth softball team later took the stage to pay tribute to her and retire her jersey number.
KSTP reported that more than 1,000 people paid tribute to Matula on a Facebook memorial page.
Matula’s remains were found in Mississippi River Park near Sartell nearly six months after she disappeared on May 1. She was last seen with an ex-boyfriend who shot and killed himself before police could question him. Matula was the subject of multiple volunteer searches in the western Twin Cities and central Minnesota.
