Vikings to use metal detectors on fans coming into Metrodome

The Vikings are changing the way it checks fans coming into Mall of America Field. Instead of getting a patdown, ticket holders will now be checked with a metal-detecting wand. The change starts this Sunday before the Oakland Raiders game, and will be fully implemented before the Dec. 4 home game against the Denver Broncos.

Twin Metals has drilled more than 400 holes as it puts together a picture of the deposits. One industry expert tells MPR it's already clear there's enough precious metal to keep mines busy for 60 years. The debate over whether to issue environmental permits is in the early stages, though, and any mines are still years away.

WCCO-TV reports Gov. Mark Dayton says there's no other stadium site in the works if the Ramsey County proposal fails. Vikings officials say it will not renew its lease at the Metrodome without knowing that a new stadium is in the works.
