The Duluth News Tribune has the story of Maynard Peterson, 85, who had always said that his high school sweetheart Mary Lou Pouti, 86, was the only one who could keep up with him on the dance floor.
The Cloquet couple's song was "It Had To Be You."
When Maynard returned from World War II, they were married, raised five children – and spent their date nights dancing, the newspaper reported.
The decades slipped by, and after 65 years of sharing their lives together, they joined each other in death, the News Tribune reported. Mary Lou passed Thursday, likely due to a blood clot that had formed after a fall.
Family members told Maynard, who was recently ill with stroke-like symptoms and in an intensive care facility, the newspaper reported. But he seemed to take in the news, daughter Julie Aili, of Esko, said. “They were inseparable," she said.
“It’s really something,” another daughter, Robin Johnson, of Esko, told the newspaper. “It was like a blessing.”
