The shorelines of Lake Superior is home to a large outdoor ice bar known as "Blu." It's located about 10 miles north of Two Harbors. WCCO reports this ice bar features 60,000 pounds of ice transformed into chandeliers, benches, shot glasses, and sculptures, including a 16-foot replica of the Split Rock Lighthouse. Blu is open Fridays and Saturdays.

Report: Ice coverage on Lake Superior down 79 percent since 1973
According to an American Meteorological Society report, the amount of ice covering all the Great Lakes has dropped more than 70 percent over the past 40 winters. The Duluth News Tribune reports the study doesn't include the 2011-12 season. As of this winter, only about five percent of the Great Lakes froze. The lead researcher says a lack of ice coverage can reduce water levels, damage water quality and accelerate shoreline erosion.

More than a hundred fish houses sit on the frozen Lake Lida in Otter Tail County and among them is the Ice Hole Bar. WDAY reports it can seat about 20 people and even offers satellite TV. The Ice Hole Bar is open Thursday through Sundays until the end of the season.
Search resumes for missing Lakeville pilot, plane along North Shore
The Civil Air Patrol says a twin-engine Piper PA-31, with one person on board, vanished Friday flying from South St. Paul to the Duluth airport. The News Tribune reports eight Civil Air Patrol airplanes and six ground teams are involved in the search for 67-year-old Michael Bratlie.

The Civil Air Patrol and more than 60 volunteers continue to actively search for a pilot who has been missing for 10-days. Mike Bratlie, 67, left South St. Paul on June 8 bound for northeastern Minnesota. The Duluth News Tribune reports the search effort has been a challenge because of heavily wooded terrain.
