'Iconic' Mazeppa town bar destroyed in Sunday fire

More than 600 homes were without power for hours as a result.

This dramatic image was shared by the Mazeppa Fire Department, showing its crew battling a blaze that destroyed a local bar.

WD's Bar and Grill on 1st Avenue North in Mazeppa, southeast Minnesota, caught fire overnight on Saturday, destroying the building by the early hours of Sunday morning.

Video and pictures of the blaze were shared on Facebook by WD's worker Jake Heffernon, showing the fire fully engulfing the building and the smoldering rubble theft behind when it was extinguished.

The Mazeppa Fire Department praised the efforts of its crew and those from Zumbrota, Zumbro Falls, Pine Island and Oronoco fire departments who assisted.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of such an iconic structure on Main Street, but we as a community will be able to come back from it!" it said.

"It's always nice to help your neighbor, which was shown in true colors today!

KAAL reports that 620 homes were without power for four hours Sunday morning back of the fire.

The cause has not yet been determined, but is under investigation.
