When Jacob Wetterling is memorialized in his hometown of St. Joseph next weekend, seating at the prayer service will be limited, so the College of St. Benedict is urging people to sign up in advance if they plan to attend.

The statement posted by the college Friday evening says people who sign a guestbook for the Sep. 25 event will be emailed details about the location and parking.

Those not attending can watch a livestream of the ecumenical prayer service here.

St. Cloud State tribute this weekend

St. Joseph is only about eight miles from St. Cloud, where there will be tributes to Jacob at St. Cloud State University events this weekend.

The university says at its Celebrate St. Cloud State events, including Saturday's football game against MSU-Mankato, they'll hand out stickers featuring the number 11 that Jacob wore on jerseys when he was an athlete.

The Wetterling family, through the Jacob Wetterling Resource Center, has encouraged supporters to use the numeral to honor Jacob's memory.

Jacob was 11 years old when he was abducted from a St. Joseph road in October of 1989. His fate was a mystery for nearly 27 years until a man led authorities to Jacob's remains this month and admitted in court that he kidnapped and killed the boy.

The College of St. Benedict says preferred donation recipients are the Jacob Wetterling Resource Center, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, or another children's organization that focuses on building a better and safer world.
