Three residents at a Sartell nursing home, each suffering from dementia, were sexually abused by an employee, an investigation by the Minnesota Department of Health says.

The St. Cloud Times reports the female employee at The Legends at Heritage Place made inappropriate sexual contact with the patients on different occasions earlier this year, according to the investigation.

KSTP reports the caregiver denied she touched the women, and said her contact with the male came during the course of cleaning him, the investigation found.

The three victims required help with basic every day tasks, and were unable to report the incidents themselves, the Star Tribune reports.

The worker was suspended, then later fired, reports note.

According to WCCO, the Department of Health said other staff members saw the incidents and reported at least one of them to administrators, but those higher-ups failed to follow through and investigate the claims or report the incidents.

Neither the caregiver nor the patients were identified.
