2 motorists shot in separate weekend incidents on I-35E
A man was shot in the chin and neck early Saturday morning while driving on Interstate 35E in St. Paul, the Star Tribune reports. The driver had injuries that were not life-threatening and dropped at Regions Hospital, the newspaper reports. Witnesses said shots were fired from a green Ford Explorer.
There were no initial indications that the shooting was linked to another early Sunday morning on I-35, in which a woman was shot and injured. That shooting was likely a road rage incident on an I-35 ramp in Eagan, police say, the Associated Press reports. They say the 26-year-old woman was one of eight people in a Volkswagen Jetta. Someone in the Jetta made an obscene gesture to the driver of an SUV, and someone in the SUV fired shots into the car, hitting the woman.
Police are searching for the dark SUV and the occupants of the vehicle, Eagan Patch reports.
The injured woman was sitting on the lap of a passenger in the front seat with her back pressed against the window, Fox 9 says.
A number of people in the Jetta were intoxicated, which has hindered the investigation, Patch says. The driver of the Jetta was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, Patch reports.
