Iron Range town named safest city in America

Bob Dylan hails from the safest city in America, according to the home safety and security company SafeWise.

SafeWise used its own research and the latest FBI crime statistics to find the 100 safest cities with populations over 10,000 people, and Hibbing, Minnesota, came in at No. 1.

The city of over 16,000 people has a Community Liaison Officer who is dedicated to community policing, and a variety of drug and alcohol enforcement programs that helped its ranking, SafeWise notes.

The ranking shows Hibbing has a violent crime rate of .25 per 1,000 residents and a property crime rate of just .37 per 1,000 residents – no other city on the list has a property crime that low, the Hibbing Daily Tribune notes.

Coming in at No. 2 behind Hibbing was Upper Providence Township, Pennsylvania; followed by Zionsville, Indiana; Ridgefield, Connecticut; and South Park Township, Pennsylvania, rounded out the top five.

No other Minnesota cities made the list, but SafeWise has compiled a list of Minnesota's 15 safest cities with populations over 2,500.

Hibbing has been ranked No. 1 among Minnesota's safest cities in the past, including lists by Safe Choice Security and Movoto, the Hibbing Daily Tribune says.
