It's Craft Beer Week! Here are 6 facts about Minnesota brewers worth toasting

Cheers to Minnesota Craft Beer Week.

Breweries around the state will be hosting tap takeovers, tours, and other events in honor of the Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild's annual 10,000 Minutes of Minnesota Craft Beer, which begins Monday.

To celebrate, here's a look at craft beer in Minnesota, by the numbers.


That's how many licensed brewpubs and breweries are in the state, as of May 2, according to the Minnesota Department of Safety's Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement Division.

This a huge jump from 2011, when there were just 18 brewers in the state, the agency's website shows. To put that in perspective, that's basically one new brewer every two weeks.

That's how many craft breweries there were in the United States in 2015, according to the Brewers Association. The group says that year, Minnesota had the 16th-most breweries in the United States, with 105.


How much money the average Minnesotan 21 and over spent on craft beer in 2014, the Brewers Association says.

All told, the economic impact of the industry in the state that year was $1.3 billion, according to the National Beer Wholesalers Association


That's how many barrels of craft beer is produced per year in Minnesota, the Brewers Association says. Which equates to 5 gallons for every Minnesotan who is 21 and older.

Minnesota ranks No. 12 in barrel production in the United States.


How many direct jobs the brewing industry created in Minnesota in 2014, the National Beer Wholesalers Association notes.

There were 667 brewing jobs, 2,352 wholesaling jobs and 22,416 retailing jobs, the group says.


Roughly how many events are going on around the state this week for the 10,000 Minutes of Minnesota Craft Beer.

There are a little more than 10,000 minutes in a week, and the Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild is encouraging beer lovers to take advantage of every minute by enjoying a pint from the "Land of 10,000 beers."

The guild is also asking people to share their beer photos using the hashtags #10000Minutes, #MNCraftBeer and #MNBeerWeek.
