It's 'Miracle Treat Day': You can help kids by eating a DQ Blizzard

Ice cream lovers have the chance to help sick and injured children by eating a Dairy Queen Blizzard on Thursday.

It's DQ's 10th annual Miracle Treat Day, which is celebrated across the country to raise money and help improve the lives of sick and injured children in Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

Throughout the day, $1 or more from every Blizzard sold at participating Dairy Queen shops will be donated to a local Children's Miracle Network Hospital.

For those enjoying a Blizzard from a Minnesota DQ, money will be donated to Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare, Gillette says. (Find a participating store here.)

"Gillette will never turn down a patient for care, no matter what their ability to pay, because we are a Children's Miracle Network hospital," Becky Holst of Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare told WDIO. "So these funds help support what isn't covered by insurance."

Minnesota-based Dairy Queen and Children's Miracle Network Hospitals have been partners since 1984 to help provide treatment to children across the United States and Canada. Since then, more than $100 million has been raised through donations at participating DQs.

Last year, Miracle Treat Day raised more than $236,000 for Gillette, which provides care and services in 18 locations throughout Minnesota, the International Falls Journal says.

If you're visiting Canada in August, Miracle Treat Day there is Aug. 13.
