It's official: Government shutdown closes 21 sites in Minnesota

Author:

U.S. Fish and Wildlife lands closed Saturday because of the government shutdown. In Minnesota, that means 13 national wildlife refuges, eight wetland management districts, one ecological services office and the Midwest Regional Office, according to the Associated Press.

The public is asked not to visit any U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service lands. Hunting, fishing, environmental education and other public events are cancelled.

More than 800 employees of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are on unpaid furlough in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio and Wisconsin.

The contingency plan is on the Department of the Interior's website, where you can see how other agencies are affected by the shutdown.

It is likely to prompt Plan B for the governor's deer opener in Fergus Falls.
