It's official: St. Paul voted N. America's most romantic city

You gotta love this, St. Paul. Lovers love you.

Sure, there were more than a few snickers earlier this month when Minnesota's capital city was said to be leading the voting in a USA Today most-romantic getaway city contest.

But now it's official – the votes are tallied and the final most-romantic list looks like this:

1. St. Paul, Minnesota
2. Savannah, Georgia
3. Victoria, British Columbia
4. Santa Fe, New Mexico
5. New Orleans, Louisiana
6. Naples, Florida
7. Bar Harbor, Maine
8. Mendocino, California
9. Charleston, South Carolina
10. Honolulu, Hawaii

The Pioneer Press notes that voting started Dec. 30, and people were allowed to vote once a day. Audits were conducted to detect any “unethical voting,” the Star Tribune reported. (C'mon, vote rigging, in St. Paul?)

The city's entry said: "St. Paul is the smaller, quieter and, many say, the more sophisticated of the Twin Cities. While not an obvious choice as a romantic getaway, couples love it for its diverse romantic offerings, like leisurely paddle- wheeler rides along the Mississippi, beer tastings, or ice skating. St. Paul also has a thriving performing arts scene."

Just in time for St. Valentine's Day, St. Paul's tourism bureau is running a contest for a romantic trip for two to the city.

Now, we don't want to use the word "haters" in a story about love, but reaction from the Twittersphere about St. Paul's new title was not all kind:
