Daniel Heinrich, identified as a "person of interest" in the Jacob Wetterling disappearance, was charged with an additional 20 counts of child pornography offenses.

Heinrich, the 52-year-old of Annandale, was previously facing five child pornography charges following his arrest in October. But U.S. Attorney Andrew Luger announced he was being indicted on additional charges Wednesday.

These include 17 counts of possession, and eight counts of receipt of child pornography.

When the initial charges were announced in October, investigators revealed they were also probing whether he is linked to the abduction of Jacob Wetterling from St. Joseph in 1989, when he was just 11-years-old.

According to Luger's announcement, officers searched Heinrich's home on July 28, 2015 and "recovered numerous images of suspected child pornography," which had been organized into "multiple three-ring binders located throughout the residence."

Further images were located on the hard-drive of a desktop computer found in the basement of the property.

The charges against Heinrich are as follows:

  • Possession of child pornography – printed material, 10 counts
  • Possession of child pornography – victim under 12 – printed material, 5 counts
  • Possession of child pornography – morphed image – printed material, 1 count
  • Possession of child pornography – digital image, 1 count
  • Receipt of child pornography – digital material, 7 counts
  • Receipt of child pornography – printed material, 1 count

According to the Star Tribune, an FBI agent involved in the search testified that Heinrich referred to himself as a "dirty old man" but denied creating or sharing the pornography, with none of the charges alleging that he distributed the material.
