It's above zero! Welcome stretch of warmer weather begins today

We made it through the latest cold spell – and the above zero temperatures feel amazing.

We're nearing 20 degrees for the morning commute this morning – it's 20-25 degrees warmer at the bus stop Wednesday, compared to Tuesday, KARE 11's Belinda Jensen notes.

Overnight snow is making for some slushy – and in some places slick – roads throughout the metro and southern Minnesota. The Minnesota Department of Transportation's website shows many highways are partially covered with mixed snow ice or slush.

Temperatures are rebounding nicely for the rest of the week. Winds switched around to the south and that's where they remain, helping usher in the milder readings.

Get ready for afternoon highs to be near 20 degrees Wednesday, which is just a touch below average for this time of year. But we'll quickly see highs in the lower 30s on Thursday. Temps drop a few degrees Friday – back into the upper 20s to near 30 degrees.

The warmest day of the forecast appears to be Saturday. We'll see afternoon highs reach the middle 30s. Some models indicate the Twin Cities could even see temps in the upper 30s.

Long-range models hint at warm-ups followed by brief and subtle cold snaps, meaning temperatures only drop to near-average levels, lower to middle 20s. So, expect mostly 20s and 30s for highs all the way through the end of next week.
