MnDot workers are making progress on flood-damaged roadways surrounding Jay Cooke State Park and tourists may be able to drive into the park by the end of October, the Duluth News Tribune reports. MnDot tells the newspaper Minnesota Highway 210 will be the biggest challenge to reopen after mudslides and washouts severed the road in several places.

The park's website still says Jay Cooke State Park is closed indefinitely and a deer hunt originally scheduled in December has been canceled.

The northland experienced major flooding in June, causing millions of dollars in damage to public facilities and homes.
